THE WEEK THAT WAS
It was the 2nd to last week of the season in DFC XIII when Steven Ray won his first week, leading to a divisional title, a playoff spot and a 61 win season. Now, in the 2nd to last week of this season, Steven has won his second career week, and has planted himself in the midst of the playoff run this year, going 7-1.
Brad "The Lawdawg" Latta has also taken a huge leap in his playoff chances, now leading his division, and coming in 2nd this week at 6-2. Jenni Ersnt and Mike Beirne both are in, if the playoffs started today, and tie for 3rd at 6-2. Mark Warner, like his beloved Miss State Bulldogs, is having a huge season, and is in 5th at 6-2, while Daniel Powell holds tightly to his thin playoff hopes for 6th at 6-3.
Hurricane Rhett takes 7th for the week, while Jon Osborne and Justin Harrison tie for 8th and Brad Ashby gets 10th, all at 5-3.

LIES, DARN LIES & STATISTICS
- The playoffs are ever so close! There are five DFC'ers who didn't make it out of a single season before falling apart... Willis Watkins, Dawn "Snapdragon" Langner, Ken Nipp, Trey O'Neal & Ross Kingrey. There are also 74 DFC'ers who made it a full season and beyond, totaling 79 people who at one time or another in their life submitted picks for games.
- Out of those 79, we've had 45 who have tasted postseason glory. Seven of those made it just once and only once in their DFC careers--Shawn Sharp (DFC I)...Vic Paschal (II)... Jason Turnbow (VII)... Tebe Shaw (VII)... Clif Render (VIII)... Ken Mackey (VIII)... Rhett Barnett (XIV) and Mike Beirne (XIV).
- Should be noted that the only time Shawn Sharp made the playoffs he won the championship. We usually consider him to be the Florida Marlins of the group--someone who didn't traditionally do well but got really lucky for a season.
- Looks like we have two headed to the postseason this year for the first time... Mark Warner, who will likely make it in this, his fifth season, and rookie Remodeling Clay Shaver, representing Michigan, who would making the playoffs in his first year, and will more than likely wrap up the Rookie of the Year Award regardless.
- Brad Ashby, in his fourth year, is also on the cusp, one game behind 8th seed Jennifer Ernst, and would get in for the first time in his career.
- The most successful playoff careers in the DFC belong to four DFC'ers... Tad Roose, mentioned only because he won 3 DFC titles... Drew Morris, who has won 114 playoff games... Big Eddy, winning 111 and Mark Gainey, who won 102 playoff games. Drew is likely to miss the postseason this year, so Big Eddy has a good shot to take the #1 all time playoff wins record this year. Mark, with a huge run, could also take that spot, especially if Big Eddy McBroom falls out early.
- Speaking of collapses... I have to mention Chris Croyle, who was cruising early this season, even taking a share of the divisional lead at one point. He spent 5 weeks in the Top 15, and looked to be making a playoff push towards the end, and has week by week fallen out of contention. Currently, he sits at 28th in the league, after being 7th three weeks ago, and though he is 2 games out of the the playoff hunt, with an extremely high TBA and 9 people to go through before he gets into the Top 8 of the conference, it's likely his season is over.
- Futility also abounds with Jacob Pinkerton, who has completed his fourth losing record week in a row. Seven others have lost 4 weeks in a row in their careers--Eddy McBroom, Michael Nipp, Josh Crosby, Ty Coffey, Jason Turnbow, Dave Tuck and Jason Roberts. But Pinky has a chance to make history, as he can join the only other two DFC'ers in history to have a losing record 5 weeks in a row--Tad Roose did it in DFC III and DMOsborne did it in DFC VIII. Can Pinky do five in a row?
