THE WEEK THAT WAS
A 10-0 record is a grand way to end the season, as Jonathan Osborne not only captures the top seed in the postseason, but also the best record in the league, his 2nd weekly win of the year, and sewn up the NFL Title by 2 games -- and the 2nd MVP trophy in his career (we'll get to all that later).  Congrats Jonny Oz!

Despite lackluster seasons, both Zack "The Attack" Graves and Michael "The Wheel" Ferris finish strong, at 2nd and 3rd for the week, both at 9-1, as well as Remodeling Clay Shaver senaking in the postseason thanks to a strong 4th place 9-1 week.

The rest of the top ten finishes 8-2, with Tommy McLeod in 5th, Brad "Lawdawg" Latta and Justin "The Rook" Dearing tying for 6th, The Bald One Brad Ashby and Trey "The Answer" Cartledge tying for 8th and Lt Dan "Magic Legs" Sellers rounding out the top ten at 10.

Also Finishing:
8-2: Young Garrett... Drew // Morris... Chris "No Nickname" Croyle...
7-3: Big Tom Johnson... DMO... Mikey "High" Nipp... Tad "The Dynasty" Roose... Bradley "The Wiser" Pinky... Mark "The Mighty" Gainey... Matthew "The Elder" Pinky... Eddy Jr...

THE WEEK THAT WAS
When I looked at the DFC archives to see how many other weeks our winner this week had taken, I had to do a double take.. despite the last four MidCentral championships (only Mark Gainey has won more consecutively, with 5 from DFC III to VII), Brad Latta gets only his 2nd Weekly Win notch on his DFC belt.

Lots of ties this week, as Big Eddy Mc and Mark "The Mighty" Gainey both tie for 2nd, Big Tom Johnson gets 4th alone, all at 7-1.

Mitchell "The Younger" Pinky, Atlanta Bill Seybolt, and Danny P tie for 5th, at 6-2, with Clay "No Just" Shaver and Tyler "TSPSBotDFC" Campbell both in 8th, and Jenni "Sister Golden Hair" Ernst and Tad "The Dynasty" Roose tie for 10th at 6-2.

LIES, DARN LIES & STATISTICS

  • It's been a crazy season thusfar, with many more losses than previous years. Last year, in DFC XVIII, there were 18 DFC'ers that won at least 60 games.  Back in DFC XVI, there were 22, and in DFC XV, there were 11.  This year is shaping up to be a lot like DFC XVII, when only Lori Beirne & Grandy Latta won at least 60.
  • If I had to speculate, we will likely have four -- Gainey, Jonathan Osborne and Mitchell Pinkerton, who need 4, 5, and 4 wins respectively to hit 60.
  • It is one of those weird years where everyone falls historically in the middle or so, with most not having "career years", either high or low, though there are a few exceptions.  Atlanta Bill's biggest win total ever was 56 two years ago, so sitting at 52, he can likely pass that this weekend.
  • There are a few, however, who have bottomed out -- Daniel Powell needs 9 wins this final weekend to keep this year from being his worst ever.  He went 45-51 in DFC XI in 2010
  • Tom Johnson had a 47-49 season back in DFC III in 2002, and with a 40-46 record right now, needs a great week to surpass that.
  • Michael Nipp went 40-56 not once but twice, in DFC VI and DFC X, and at 36-50 right now, needs at least an average 5-5.

DFC XIX Week Ten Games

And here we are... the final week of the regular season of DFC XIX... and lest you think you are out of it, only three DFC'ers (Tom Johnson, Daniel Powell, Mikey Nipp) are completely mathematically eliminated.  Some of you have a much harder road than others, but still... there's always a chance.

7 College Games (because I liked them all) and 3 NFL to round out the regular season.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
Despite four division titles (including last season) and a DFC XVII Championship, its hard to believe Matt "The Mad Scientist" Halpert (who actually is, like, a rocket scientist) has only won one regular season week -- and that was back in Week 9 of DFC 11 way back in November 2010. Eight years later, he finally gets his second win, with a solid 9-1 mark, one that puts him near the top of the playoff race.

Tommy "The Highlander" McLeod (there can only be one) gets that 2nd place finish, with Big Eddy Mc in 3rd, and James Hawbaker trying to salvage a disaster season in 4th. Jonathan Osborne rounds out the top 5, all at 8-2

In 6th place is Yours Truly, while Drew "The Grassman" Warren and Trey "The Answer" Cartledgee tie for 7th, Atlanta Bill Seybolt in 9th and Lori "Sunshine" Beirne comes in 10th, everyone at 7-3

Also Finishing:

LIES, DARN LIES, & STATISTICS Xtra Size

  • Out of the 84 people who've ever played this DFC game, 51 of them have spent at least one weekend in the postseason.  And 32 of those are still active in the DFC as of this season.
  • Most playoff appearances? Mark Gainey and Drew Morris have both done it 13 times, while Yours Truly, Tommy McLeod, and Eddy McBroom have been in 12 times.  A couple of ladies are the others who have made the postseason at least 10 times or more, with OG DFC'er Jennifer Ersnt in 11 times, and Lori Beirne with 10.
  • Brad Ashby and Mitchell Pinkerton are the only two with 1 playoff appearance, both last season... it seems as it Mitch will make it 2, with Brad seemingly on the outs.
  • Naturally, that puts Gainey with the most postseason wins of all time, at 143, with Big Eddy in 2nd at 139, and Drew Morris with 136.  This will likely change, as Gainey and Drew are prime for another playoff run, and Big Eddy will struggle to make it this year.
  • And that also means there are those in playoff futility... Michael Nipp currently holds the record for longest gap between appearances.  His last appearance was in DFC V, and as by the end of this season, there will have been 1,344 games, plus the 96 for next year (that's if he misses this year, which he likely will) so he'll be sitting at 1,440 games picked between playoff berths (if he makes it next year).  Tom Johnson, who also will miss this year, will be looking at 768 games by the end of next year.  His last appearance was in DFC XI in 2010.
  • And then there are those longtime DFC'ers who have yet to make the postseason. Sarah Hasha held this record with 1536 games picked in the span of her career (DFC III to DFC XVIII).  Garrett Cheney joined the league in DFC V, and at the end of this season, will have 1440.  Meaning if he returns for DFC XX, he'll also be at 1,536 games.  Goals, baby.
  • Not to be outdone, Chris Croyle stands at 963 games by season's end.  Jacob Pinkerton will have 576 at the end of this season as well.
  • Clay Shaver, who may or may not make the playoffs, breaking a four season streak, just won his 298th game of his career, now sitting at 46-32. That's also the record of the aforementioned Jacob Pinky, who also has 298 games in his career... only Shaver started a full season after Pinky.  His brothers Mitchell and Matthew also seems poised to pass him (both also starting a season after Jacob) as they have 275 and 288 regular season wins respectively.
  • Add in playoff wins, and Clay shoots past him with 328 wins, as does Matt Pinky, with 314.  Mitch only trails Jacob by 3.  Of course, the other Pinky brother Bradley is way ahead of them all.  The former Rookie of the Year has 485 wins regular season, and just passed 500 wins all time (506)
  • Looking at regular season milestones -- Eddy McB Jr needs only 2 wins to cross the big 1000, becoming the 9th player all time to do so (Yours Truly, Jenn Ernst, Tommy Mc, Drew Morris, Big Eddy, Jon Osborne, Gainey, DMO).
  • Next up for 1000 regular season: Tad Roose (993) will likely make it this season, and next season, expect to see Tom Johnson (982), Daniel Powell (989), Lori Beirne (989) and Mikey Nipp (977)
  • Though it's been a down season, Tyler Campbell just hit 800 (808 now)... Matt Halpert is a week or two away from 700 (692), and sophomore Justin Dearing flew past 100 with 108 total
  • Looking at the Regular Season Top Ten All Time, its an interesting match between Tad Roose & Lori Beirne, with Tad having 993 wins and Lori with 989, so Lori has a shot to finish the season amongst the Top Ten ever.
  • Reshuffling the spreadsheet, looking now at ALL TIME EVER rankings (regular season + playoffs), the race is on between Tom Johnson (996 all time wins) and Mikey Nipp (989 all time) to see who can get to 1000 first.  Why those two?  Because there are 8 of the original 11 DFC'ers who started back in 2000, and those are the only two who don't have 1000 all time wins.  Goals again.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
We've had 212 regular season weeks of The DFC in history, and only 8 times have we had someone win back to back... Matthew Pinkerton makes it 9, as he takes his 2nd consecutive week, and 3rd of his career. He also did something even more rare (which I do not have the numbers on, but I know its happened at least once before), and that is he got the TB exactly. So his picking the Auburn Tigers is what kept him from doing something that had never been done before -- going undefeated and having 0 for TB.  Alas, pitching the perfect game still eludes us.

Making history as well is Trey "The Answer" Cartledge, who ends up 2nd at 8-2, but also gets the TB at 0, making the first time that 1 and 2 for the week when 0 in TB.  Matt "The Mad Scientist" Halpert gets 3rd, Lori "Sunshine" Beirne comes in 4th, Drew // Morris is in 5th, Brad "Lawdawg" Latta is in 6th, and Hurricane Rhett takes 7th, everyone at 7-3.

Eddy the Junior comes in 8th with 6-4, and a three way tie at 6-4 rounds out the top ten, with Mitchell "The Younger" Pinkerton, Mark "The Mighty" Gainey, and Rick TOOLIE

Also finishing:
