Its the 2nd round of the DFC Divisional Playoffs... its time to decide a Final Four, one that will take place in a few weeks.
And I gotta tell ya, there is a lack of great games--or at least, great familiar games--to choose from. I mean, who wants to see FSU at 10-2 beat up on GA Tech at 6-6 for the ACC title? Yeesh.
But, here's the college games... including one on Thursday night...
Louisville Cardinals (9-2) at Rutgers Scarlet Knights (9-2)
For the Big East title... Thursday, 630p, ESPN
21. Northern Illinois Salukis (11-1) at 17. Kent State Golden Flashes (11-1)
For the MAC Title... Friday, 6p, ESPN2
20. Boise State Broncos (9-2) at Nevada Wolf Pack (7-4)
Saturday, 230p, ABC
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (11-1) vs 3. Georgia Bulldogs (11-1)
Saturday, 3p, CBS... in Atlanta, Georgia... yes, everyone will pick Alabama... but this is also our tiebreak game.

Arizona Cardinals (4-7) at NYJets (4-7)

DFC XIII Wild Card Weekend Games
First, here's how this works... the top three get a first round bye, meaning they take off this coming weekend. Seeds are determined by record, then TBA, with Division winner getting a higher seed, regardless of TBA.
Second, Wild Card Weekend consists of Seeds 4 through 8. Top 2 records advance to next round, next 3 records are eliminated. Tiebreak game breaks ties in records, any tie after that defers to higher seed.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
Though it never translates into postseason success--or even postseason appearances (his last was 8 seasons ago in DFC V), Michael Nipp continues his weekly win success. He becomes one of 4 DFC'ers, after The Mighty Gainey, Yours Truly and Drew Morris, to win 8 career weeks.
His 6-2 takes the final regular season week of The DFC XIII, and at least he has that to rest his hat on. Jennifer Ernst, who has 7 of her own, takes 2nd place with a 5-3 record, while Ryan Sherman, who won 60 games yet will miss the postseason, gets 3rd, also at 5-3.
In 4th is Lori "Sunshine" Beirne, in 5th is Jessica Hawbaker, Lil Stevie Ray takes 6th, Brad "The Lawdawg" Latta is in 7th, Doc Alex takes 8th and David Stamper comes in 9th, all at 5-3. Rounding out the Week 12 Top Ten is Daniel Powell, at 4-4.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
After going undefeated, then seeing someone else take the Weekly Win, Steven Ray decided he'd try it again... and he did go undefeated, this time winning his first career weekly win... and just in time too, as going into the final week of the season, he is catapulted into a 4 way tie for the divisional title.
Coming in 2nd is a familiar name, James Hawbaker, as he's pretty much got the MVP title wrapped up by now, barring a horrendous stumble at the very end. In 3rd is Matt Latta, clinging to the 6th seed in the Campbell Conference. For 4th is Drew Morris, who has a knack for coming on strong towards the end, holding the 7th seed, and tied for 5th for the week is Yours Truly and Bradley Pinkerton... all at 7-1.
In 7th is Doc Alex Whitley, who has also charged the last few weeks, though it might be too little too late. At 7-1, he's crossed the 50 win mark for his rookie season. In 8th place is Ryan Sherman, at 7-1, in 9th is Jessica Hawbaker, at 6-2 and finally, tied for 10th is Grandy Latta and John "The Lone" Wolf.

LIES, DARN LIES & STATISTICS
- During the pre-season rankings, Jonathan Osborne came in at #1... besides being the latest victim of the PreSeason #1 Curse (think SI Cover Jinx... or Eddy McBroom), I did brag on him winning 70 games the previous year and how it might never be matched. James Hawbaker sits at 64 wins, with a very real possibility of not just getting to 70, but a 7-1 week gets him the all time record.
- Who is looking to defend their titles? Since I'm sure some of you aren't even sure who won what last season, here's a refresher... Tyler Campbell is the defending DFC champ as well as the East Division champion.
- Matt Halpert won the North last year... Jennifer Ernst the Central... and Dan Sellers is the two time champ of the West Division... Jonathan Osborne took the other Central, as well as the MVP title... And Daniel Powell is the South Division champ. Rookie of the Year went to Jessica Hawbaker.
- We use the TieBreak Average as a way to break ties when it matters, especially come playoff time. The narrowest margin between getting in the playoffs and missing it is DFC III, when Mikey Nipp finished at 55-41, with a 10.18 TBA. Scott Latta was in 6th place for the conference (there were only 5 postseason berths per conference, with only 24 in the league), with a 55-41 record and a 10.75 TBA... a difference of 0.57.
- This is mentioned because Scotty Latta and his divisionmate Lori "The DFC Sunshine" Beirne share an identical 56-32 record, and both have 14.889 TBA.
- The DFC Rulebook states: At the end of the season, however, if there is a tie to determine ranks, playoffs spots, playoff berths and/or anything else, the best TB will be added back in just to break the tie... using this rule, adding in both Lori's and Scott's best TB score this season, Lori's TBA becomes 13.4 and Scott's becomes 13.7. Which means Lori would get the edge if the tie remained. And Scott would miss the postseason again by less than 1/2 a point.
- No one has clinched a spot just yet, though most are fairly certain to get in... Bradley Pinkerton, the aforementioned Hawbaker, Jeni Ernst, a couple of Matts... but there have been some eliminations... here's how the playoff race looks:
Bradley Pinkerton... James Hawbaker... Yours Truly...
If They Don't Make It, They Can Only Blame Themselves
