THE WEEK THAT WAS
It's been exactly three seasons for Daniel Powell since his last win, back in Week 7 of DFC XII (2011), but he has taken his 4th weekly win of his career, and has thrown himself into the thick into the playoff race. He was 8-2.
I don't have the data, but I know for sure this is at least the third time that DMOsborne has had a stellar week--and finished 2nd. He finished just ahead of Mark Warner, in 3rd, both with 8-2.
Former DFC Champ Tyler Campbell and Tommy McLeod tie for 4th at 7-3, with rookie Remodeling Clay Shaver getting 6th, and former DFC Champion Trey Cartledge gets 7th place, at 7-3.
In 8th place is Drew Warren, in 9th is Brad Latta and finishing the Weekly Top Ten, all at 7-3, is The Mighty Mark Gainey.

LIES, DARN LIES & STATISTICS
- Two big stories this week... and both are bad news for their respective subjects...
- First, Bradley Pinkerton. Bradley has now become the first DFC'er ever to go 0-10... not from missing picks, but from missing 10 straight games.
- To go 0-8, it's actually kinda hard. You have to get every single one of the picks wrong... most of the time, when an 0-8 happens, it happens because someone forgot to send in picks. Occassionally, though, it does happen because someone loses 8 games in a row. Ross Kingrey did it in DFC II, the first time it ever happened, and a select few others have been hit with the dreaded O'fer... Michael Nipp, DMOsborne and Daniel Powell have seen it happen, though it's been years and years.
- However, since we jumped to 10 games per week last season, it hasn't been approached. Only Joey Thornell has done 1-9 last year, and only 7 times has someone gone 2-8. Ross actually lost 12 games in a row, losing the first two games of the following week, so we will see what side of dubious history Bradley will land on.
- Next, Matt Halpert. Sitting at 24 weeks, he was set to become only the 2nd person to ever get to 25 weeks of .500 or better. And perhaps like the SI Cover Jinx, his feature in L,DL&S last time around possible gave him the jinx. Here's where history puts Matt Halpert:
1 | Tad Roose | 45 Weeks |
2t | Matt Halpert | 24 weeks |
2t | Gary Eubanks | 24 weeks |
4 | Yours Truly | 22 weeks |
5 | Justin Glenn | 21 weeks |
6t | Daniel Powell | 19 weeks |
6t | Tommy McLeod | 19 weeks |
6t | Trey Cartledge | 19 weeks |
9 | Lori Beirne | 20 weeks |
10t | Gina Roose | 18 weeks |
10t | Jon Osborne | 18 weeks |
12 | Jenn Ernst | 16 weeks |
13t | Drew Morris | 15 weeks |
13t | Big Eddy | 15 weeks |
15t | Big Eddy | 14 weeks |
15t | DMOsborne | 14 weeks |
15t | James Hawbaker | 14 weeks |
15t | Yours Truly** | 14 weeks |
19t | Zack Graves | 13 weeks |
19t | Trey Cartledge | 13 weeks |
19t | Rhett Barnett** | 13 weeks |
19t | Mike Beirne** | 13 weeks |
** current streaks |
- As noted, Yours Truly has the current longest streak at 14 weeks, with Rhett Barnett and Mike Beirne have 13 consecutive weeks. For Matt, next week will be 1 week.
- Let's turn attention to playoff numbers... three DFC'ers are tied for most playoff appearances: Mark Gainey (10), Drew Morris (10) and Yours Truly (10). Stranger things have happened, but Mark seems like he's cruising for another playoff berth, and Yours Truly and Drew Morris are struggling, which would give Gainey the record all by himself.
- Big Eddy and Jenni Ernst both have 9 appearances (Eddy looks like he's headed for 10)... Matt Latta and Tommy McLeod has 8... Lori Beirne has 7... Trey Cartledge, James Hawbaker, Jonathan Osborne and Tim Wasyluka all have 6 appearances... Tad Roose and Scott Latta both have 5...
- The current playoff streaks have Jeni Ernst, Drew Morris, James Hawbaker and Matt Halpert making the postseason the last 3 seasons... and Yours Truly and Steven Ray have made it the past 2 seasons in a row.
- Mark Gainey holds the streak record, making it 8 consecutive years from DFC III to DFC X, which was also his first 8 seasons in the DFC, another record.
- As far as droughts go, DMOsborne has missed it the last 8 years (last appearance DFC VI)... Justin Glenn has also missed the last 8 years (last appr DFC VI), but he was also out of the DFC for a few seasons... Michael Nipp has missed the last 9 years (last appearance DFC V)...
- And of course, dear sweet Sarah Hasha--13 seasons and nary a playoff appearance. That 1248 games picked... 1316 if you count this season.
