THE WEEK THAT WAS
He's been in a tie with Mikey Nipp for 2nd most weeks won career wise with 10 (of which Mikey hasn't won a week since Wk 2 of DFC 16 in 2015)... but now, Drew "Slash" Morris wins his 11th week to take sole possession of #2 all time.  His 9-1 was the best week he's had since DFC 14 in Wk 5, when he also went 9-1.

Justin "The Rook" Dearing continues his strong charge for the first half of the season, not only at 8-2, but he also nailed the TB guess for the first time, and this week, takes 2nd for the week.  Clay "Just" Shaver gets 3rd, Grandy Latta comes in 4th, at 8-2.  Matt "The Mad Scientist" Halpert and Matt "The Elder" Pinky tie for 6th, DMO takes 7th, Lt Dan Sellers in 8th and "The Bald One" Brad Ashby gets 9th, and all of the were 8-2.

NOTE:
Last season, what is now known as The Junior Rule took effect, meaning Eddy Jr got the 8th and final playoff spot at 59-37 over Justin Dearing, at 60-36. According to the rules, a division winner gets the spot over a non-division winner. This was a rule that has been in place for over 15 years but didn't ever get used until last year.  This is important because in this early playoff projection, Tad Roose, at 28-20, would take spot #8 over 2 people with 29 wins.  I'm hoping this doesn't hold because it will be quite a cluster at season end.  While the rule itself does spell out what happens in the scenario where a Division Champ gets in over someone with a better record, there is no rule on if 2 or more have better records.

So I am adding one line to the rule:  The division winner in question must not be ranked 10th or more in the conference.  If DW is ranked 10th or lower, the spot automatically reverts to the overall 8th best record, regardless of divisional status.

So if our present situation holds, then Tad would not make the postseason, as he is currently ranked 10th in the conference, and would be the first DFC'er to ever win a division and miss the postseason.

LIES, DARN LIES & STATISTICS
  • I hate that I don't have the time to do this section every week because I do miss some timely information that is just fascinating. Like...
  • Brad Ashby had 14 weeks of .500 or more heading into Week 3 of this season.  Tommy McLeod was at 16 weeks. Big Eddy, Randy Latta, Clay Shaver, and Steven Ray had 16 weeks.  Steven Ray had 16 weeks.  All of them had losing records in Week 3, ending all streaks.  FYI, 16 weeks ties for 12th on the all time list (with Jennifer Ersnt's previous streak)
  • The put Mitchell Pinkerton's streak of 17 weeks as the current longest... and he went 4-6 this past week. So that's over.
  • So the current streak belongs to Justin Dearing, at 11 weeks of .500 or better. Second longest current streak is defending DFC Champion Mark Gainey, with 8 weeks.
  • Mark Gainey also holds the current streak with most weeks above .500... its at 4 weeks. That's how hard that streak is to continue, making Matt Latta's 17 weeks spanning DFC VIII and DFC IX (2007-2008) all the more impressive
  • Speaking of Justin Dearing, who was the victim of The Junior Rule as mentioned earlier, he's off to a roaring start in his second year. He's at 95 wins in his career thus far, currently 68th with a bullet, with regards to Casey Kasem's American Top 40
  • But does the MVP award, which Justin is leading the pack for, preclude a championship?  Nope. More often than not, the MVP is bounced out of playoffs sans a title.  Only 4 champions also have gone home with a Hasha Trophy, which are Shawn Sharp in DFC I (with 11 players)... Tad Roose in DFC VII... Drew Morris in DFC VIII... and James Hawbaker in DFC XIII
