THE WEEK THAT WAS

James Hawbaker puts his stake in the ground when it comes to the MVP race, as he becomes the first to 40 wins this season and takes his 2nd weekly win in 3 weeks, and becoming the only person to go 7-1 this week.  This is also his 5th career weekly win.

Jonathan Osborne is beginning to rebound from a rough first-half of the season, a year removed from winning 70, as he takes 2nd for the week at 6-2, with The Mighty Gainey coming in 3rd.  In 4th this week is Tebershaw, while Tommy McLeod and Dan Sellers tie for 5th.  Lori "Sunshine" Beirne takes 7th with a 6-2 record.

David Stamper goes 5-3 for 8th place, and rounding out the weekly Top Ten is a tie, between Drew Morris and Matt Latta.

LIES, DARN LIES & STATISTICS

  • What a strange season it's been so far... yes, 15 wins separate the bottom (Garrett) from the top (He Hawbaker), but if you take out the 40 wins by James, and go the 2nd place spot, Yours Truly, my 37 wins is only 5 wins above #27, who is Justin Fisher.
  • Streaks, you say?  .500 & up is slim pickins... once again, we point to James Hawbaker, with 5 weeks of 5-3 or better.  4-4 or better finds Tyler Campbell with a good streak going, at 18 weeks.
  • Though 9 have gone 18 weeks or more (Jon Osborne, Gina Roose, now Tyler Campbell with 18... Daniel Powell and Tommy McLeod with 19), only 5 have hit 20 or more--Lori Beirne with 20, Justin Glenn at 21, Yours Truly at 22, Gary "The Idol" Eubanks at 24, and still the record holder, Tad "The Dynasty" Roose with 45.
  • Like Jonathan's 70 wins last year, I believe that Tad's 45 straight weeks of 4-4 or better will never be broken.
  • Speaking of Osbornes, its interesting to look at the contrast between older (David Mark, aka DM) and younger (Jonathan).  Its almost a Venus/Serena dynamic, though neither have won championships.  DMOsborne, the elder, has been in the league a year longer, much like Venus preceeded Serena by a year or so.  Jonathan, the younger, has exceeded his older brother's success in the years since, much like Serena has done to Venus.
  • I say this because in looking at the Regular Season Top Ten, all time, DMO sits at 7th all time, with 667 wins.  Jonathan is only one game behind, with an ominous 666.  And when you factor in playoffs, the All Time Top Ten, DMO comes in 10th at 696.  And Jonathan comes in 11th, only 5 wins back at 691.  Its just a matter of weeks before the younger passes the elder in both categories... though I will say Jonathan is 3 wins away from matching the 26 he lost in the entire season last year.
  • Regular Season All Time, Lori "Sunshine" Beirne passes the 600 win mark...The Big Wasyluka is next, though he's only at 578... Ryan Sherman is 1 win away from 400... Justin Fisher is at 291, but only 3 wins away from passing Wookiee Fulaytar for 30th all time....
  • Lt. Dan passes 200, at 206 now, while Brad "The Lawdawg" Latta is at 201... Lil Stevie Ray is 3 away from 200, and Hurricane Rhett is at 191.  Jessica Hawbaker will be the next to get past 100, as she's at 93 regular season wins.
  • Yours Truly gets to 800 first, as we turn over to All Time Wins, while Jennifer (789), Big Eddy Mac and Matt Latta (771 each) will get there in a few weeks.  Daniel Powell and Tad Roose just now crossed 700 all time wins, at 706 and 703 respectively, while the aforementioned Osbornes are up next, with Scott Latta at 689 and Tom Johnson at 685.  Michael Nipp remains the last of the Season I DFC'ers to probably get there, as he has 660 wins total, 15th all time.
  • There is what I like to call "The Retirement Bloc", no "K", which includes those one-and-done DFC'ers who never came back for their sophomore season... they include heralded, yet somehow forgotten names like Vic Paschel, Jason Quinn, Angie Mark Osborne, Scott Burk and Ross Kingery... I mention this because this to me is the benchmark of a good first season--can you win enough to get past this block of greyed out names in the All Time W-L section of The Official DFC Archive Spread Sheet, or, The Historical Document.
  • Steph Latta and Brad Ashby are both at 32-24, while Doc Alex Whitley is at 27-29, and are 65th, 66th and 67th all time, out of 70.  They have passed Ross K, Dawn "Snapdragon" Langner and Willis Watkins on the all time list, and next is Trey O'Neal at 34 wins.
  • A 50 win season for all three, which is decent enough, and if they stay in that order, would put them tied for 57th all time, with DMOsborne's wife, Angie Mark Osborne, while 51 wins or more puts them between Brook DeRamus (also at 50 wins, but only 38 losses) and Vic Paschel, who went 59-45 in his first year.  A 60 win season puts any or all of them past the Retirement Bloc all together.  Its something to shoot for, no?
