THE WEEK THAT WAS
Bradley "Pinky the Wiser" Pinky had only won two previous weeks in his career - Wk 12 in DFC XII (2011) and then Wk 10 in DFC XXIII (2022) - but hey, let's make it three. In a week when the NFL pretty much kicked everyone in the face, Bradley Pinky survived to take the week at 7-3 (the 2nd time in three weeks that a 7-3 record wins it)

Mikey Nippy's undefeated College Saturday helped him get 2nd, also at 7-3, while Big Tom Johnson had another big week at 7-3, for 3rd.

The rest of the top ten is at 6-4, with Aussie Nate in 4th... James "The Top Ten Maker" Hawbaker in 5th... Tad "The Dynasty" Roose in 6th... Garrison "Pride of Tallahassee" Ryfun in 7th... Two Time Defending DFC Champ DMOsborne in 8th... Eddy McB Jr in 9th, and finally... Tyler "The DFC Sexy Beast, self appointed" Campbell in 10th

LIES, DAMNED LIES, AND STATISTICS

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics" - Mark Twain

And here we go, folks... a handful of numbers you won't care about unless it's about you (and then its still 50/50) but all numbers are real, true, and compiled on one massive spreadsheet

  • First up, let's talk regular season wins & losses - we'll get to playoffs in a minute... until this week, the only DFC'ers to reach 1500 wins lifetime are Yours Truly (that's not a brag, that's me being the Buffalo Bills of the league - great regular season, womp womp in the playoffs).  And then Tommy McLeod, at 1510.
  • However, congrats to Drew "Slash" Morris who just hit 1501 lifetime, with Big Eddy Mac is up next as he's currently at 1489, followed by Jenny Ernst at 1474
  • 21 DFC'ers have crossed 1000 in league history, with only two - Tim "The Big" Wasyluka (14th all time) and Lori "Sunshine" Beirne (20th all time) being retired - and Steven Ray hitting the number last year.
  • Likely to do it this year, Hurricane Rhett Barnett, with 979 wins so far, and its possible that Lt Dan "Magic Legs" Sellers may do it, as he needs 35 more wins to make 1000 (he's at 965, for you math scholars)
  • As an aside, I still have never met Dan Sellers, and while I assume he's not in the military and his legs are normal, I cannot attest to either, but "Lt Dan" stuck a nickname in 2009 when he joined the DFC
  • Other notable milestone numbers include Jacob "Pinky the Pinky" Pinky, getting his 700th win of his career... Garrison crossing 300 in the last two weeks... and in his 4th year, Coach DiBello is 11 away from 200.
  • Now, add in the playoff numbers and suddenly, we have 23 people over 1000, with Chris "YO TEACH" Croyle 42 wins away from the big number.  Matty Pinky just hit 800... Mitchy Pinky and Pinky Pinky are both now at 702 (with Mitchy have 26 less losses than his big brother Pinky)
  • If we looked at the Top 25 all time, including regular season and playoffs, the aforementioned Wasyluka and Lori Beirne, at 25 sits DFC VI Champ Matt "The Self Proclaimed Great Bear of the North" Latta, with 904 wins before he retired to the Appalachians of West Virginia. I only bring this up because back to Bradley Pinky, winner of this week, is at 899 all time and is poised to move into the Top 25 all time
  • Open up to the Top 50 all time, sitting at #50 is former DFC'er Mike Ferris (DFC 16-20) at 268 wins.  Right behind him, Roth from Wyoming at 266, and then Aussie Nate at 257.  As a matter of fact, just ahead of Ferris is Jason "D-Mas" Demastus and Gina "Wife of Tad 'The Dynasty' Roose" Roose, both at 282, so its feasible that Roth and Aussie can both get into the All Time Top 50 by seasons end. Feasible. Maybe.
  • Now, onto two list I like to keep up with, two long standing records that seem unbeatable but aren't - the Over .500 Weekly Record and the .500 Weekly Record
  • The Over .500 is basically consecutive weeks above .500.  Either 6-4 or better, or 5-3 or better, based on the number of games that weekend. The record is held by Matt "GBotN" Latta, who went from Wk 8 in DFC VIII to Week 12 in DFC XIX with over .500 (ending when he crashed at 1-7 to start the DFC X season). Lots of folks have gotten over 10, but 17 is the magic number and no one has really come close.  Yours Truly got to 15 weeks once, Mark "The Mighty" Gainey made it to 14 weeks and Big Eddy hit 13 during one stretch - but thats it.
  • The current streak is held both by James "The Streak Maker" Hawbaker and DMOsborne, each at 11 weeks.  Drew // Morris was sitting at 15 weeks... until this week's 4-6 dropped him out of the running.
  • The other streak?  At least .500 streak is held by Tad "The Dynasty" Roose, who started at 4-4 in Week 5 of DFC IV, literally did not have a losing record until a 3-5 blemish in Week 2 of DFC VIII - that's at least a piece of five straight seasons - 45 straight weeks.
  • And I'm proud to say that Yours Truly is sitting at 44 weeks. I've had previous streaks that got into the 20s and once into the 30s, and I expect to blow it this week, but hey, I've got this going for me.
  • And if (when) I fall, the second longest active streak falls to Mark Gainey at 21 weeks, then DMO at 19 weeks, then Chris Croyle (!) at 17 weeks, and Garrison Ryfun at 16.
  • Did you go 3-7 or 4-6 this week? Well, Week 5 for you starts a brand new streak!

THE WEEK THAT WAS
Hitting 10 weekly wins is a rare feat, 11 even moreso and only a handful of DFC'ers have done 12 - welcome to the club Jonathan Osborne, aka Jonny Oz, who takes the win, his first since Week 12 of DFC XXV.  He takes it this time with a solid 9-1 record, while Lil Eddy Jr gets #2, nailing the TB and going 8-2.

A tie for 3rd goes to DMOsborne and Danny "3D" Powell, who's year is shaping up to be quite good so far.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
One of the quieter DFC'ers out there, Big Tom Johnson is an original DFC'er - in his 27th year, quietly chugging along, dropping his games in, finishing somewhere in the middle, maybe on the bubble of the playoffs, maybe not... but maybe this is His Year?  He wins his 7th week of his career, his first win coming in DFC V in 2004, the last in Week 8 of DFCXXIV.. and now, carrying in a 7-3 record, kudos to Tom for getting the week!

Jonny Oz also gets a 7-3 win for 2nd, with Drew "Slash" Morris in 3rd, and Yours Truly in 4th, both at 7-3.

DMO and Mark "The Mighty" Gainey tie for 5th with 6-4, Garrison "The Pride of Cogdell" Ryfun and Eddy McB Jr tie for 7th at 6-4, Chris "YO TEACH" Croyle in 9th, and finally, James "The Top Ten of the Week Maker" Hawbaker in 10th, at 6-4.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
Two things happened this week that I don't have records for, but I'm sure is an oddity - first, six undefeated records happened this week, which is big, especially to start a season. Second, everyone in the week had a winning record - so despite finishing 31st and 32nd, Matt Mink and Coach DiBello still finished 5-3 (its the little things, really)

That said... despite being a former champion in DFC XII (2011), Tyler "The Self Proclaimed Sexy Beast of the DFC" Campbell has only won two weeks in his career - Week 4 of DFC XVII & Week 5 of DFC XXV - and has now been the best of the undefeateds this week, snagging weekly win #3

As far as the 8-0's go, in second is Jacob "Pinky the Pinky" Pinkerton... third is Big Eddy McB... fourth is Danny "3D" Powell... in fifth is Mark "The Mighty" Gainey... and Eddy Jr gets sixth.

Tied for 7th is Jenny Ernst and Matty "Pinky the Elder" Pinky, at 7-1, and in 9th, Garrison "The Pride of TyTy Georgia" Ryfun and tied for 10th, the Osborne bros, DMO and Jonny Oz, at 7-1.

Also Finishing
7-1: Trey "The Answer" Cartledge... James "The Almost Undefeated Maker" Hawbaker... Chris "YO Teach" Croyle... Roth from Wyoming... Drew // Morris... Young Garrett Cheney... Aussie Nate... Tad "The Dynasty" Roose... Drew "The Grassman" Warren... Steven "The Principal" Ray... Lt Dan "Magic Legs" Sellers... Hurricane Rhett...

6-2: Mitchy "Pinky the Youthful" Pinky... Big Tom Johnson... Mikey Nipp... Yours Truly... Bradley "Pinky the Wiser" Pinky... Zack "The Attack" Graves...

5-3: Coach DiBello... Matt "The Coca-Cola Cowboy" Mink

SPECIAL SHOUTOUT
We lost two this year in the DFC -- I'm always surprised when we have so many come back, so for a lot of people, this is a fall tradition...

First up, Jeremy Burgess stepped out after a year, a 61-25 record, and a first round playoff appearance. He managed to go the entire season without a losing record, finished 11th for the season overall, and managed to land at 75th overall in wins in the history of the DFC. Not terrible. A promising career taken from us so soon (he's not dead, he's just busy)

Secondly, a special shout out to Tim "The Big" Wasyluka... he steps away after 23 seasons, starting in 2002 (taking a season off in 2016), with a 66-57 playoff record with 9 appearances, 10 weekly wins (the last one coming in Wk 5 of DFC XXIV), and 6 division titles (2 in the Central - DFC III and IV - and four in the South - VI, XVI, XXII, and XXIV)

Only one Final Four appearance (DFC XXII) - he does have the notoriety of winning a playoff match at 2-6 over his opponent's 1-7 record (back when we went head to head in the playoffs, which instituted the change to group advancing)

Anyway, he finishes his career with a 1252-948 regular season record, 14th overall, and a overall record of 1317-1005 (also 14th overall).  Nineteen winning seasons, two at .500, and five 60 win years.

First ballot Hall of Famer? Eh... maybe not first ballot. But would likely get in in subsequent ballots, if nothing else for longevity and continued success.  Twenty three years later, The Big Wasyluka gets a standing O. Thank you, my friend.

Also if you choose to come back next year, which you'll always get an invite, then forget I said all of this.

DFC XXVI Playoffs: Wild Card Round

Welcome to the 26th playoffs of the DFC... Defending champ DMOsborne seeks to become the 2nd back-to-back champ in four seasons... Drew Morris tries to complete one of the greatest seasons in DFC history with a 3rd title... Steven Ray and Mark Gainey also try to define their "GOAT" status with a 3rd title, while Zack Graves and Tad Roose seek to be THE GOAT with 4 championships to their names - (if Zack wins, it's his 3rd title in 4 years, and that is truly Dynasty status)... Matty Pinky hopes to finally get over the hump to take a title home to the Pinky household (to match upstart younger bro Mitchy's title) while Jacob Pinky seeks to redefine his career of losing in being a champion... and Garrison wants to make his hometown of Bainswick proud by getting his name on the plate... can Jeremy The Burgeler become the first rookie 23 seasons to win a championship?  and finally, can Yours Truly actually win a title in a game I created?

Lets find out.

TIEBREAK GAME
Florida State vs Clemson, total points scored

-------------------------

Playoff rules - 10 games, with a TB game.  Your record and TBA from the regular season doesnt count going forward, except for determining the seeding in the playoffs.

Out of the 8 in this round, the best 4 records will move forward. Ties in record are broken by the TB game. If there is a tie after factoring in the TB, the higher seed breaks the tie (example, Jacob Pinky and Matty Pinky both finish 7-3, tied for the 4th spot to move forward, and both are 4pts off TB score, Jacob automatically moves on, Matty is eliminated.  However, in the same scenario, if Matty is 4 pts off and Jacob is 5, Matty moves forward because of better TB, despite lower seeding)

THE WEEK THAT WAS
Going undefeated in a week isn't as rare as you think - 43 times its been done to win the week... and a few others times, someone has had an undefeated week only to not win the week, as someone else does it and has a better TB. Personally, that's happened to me a few times - and this week, it happens to Matt "The Coca-Cola Cowboy" Mink, who gets an 8-0 record... but finishes 2nd to Lt Dan "Magic Legs" Sellers, who goes 8-0 and gets his 5th weekly win of his own career.

As the playoffs loom, this was a solid week for several people who needed to climb in the rankings - 3rd place goes to likely MVP winner Drew "Slash" Morris... 4th is Bradley "Pinky the Wiser" Pinky... Drew "The Grassman" Warren gets 5th... Hurricane Rhett is in 6th...  and Zack "The Attack" Graves takes 7th, all of them at 7-1.

Also at 7-1 is Young Garrett Cheney, who gets 8th... Roth from Wyoming in 9th at 7-1, and at 6-2, Steven "The Principal" Ray.

Also finishing:

6-2: Tad "The Dynasty" Roose... Jeremy "Miss Independent" Burgess... Big Eddy McB... Matty "Pinky the Elder" Pinky... Coach DiB... Aussie Nate Johnston... Defending DFC Champ DMOsborne... Big Tom Johnson...
