WEEKLY TOP TEN
Breaking a record and now holding the #1 spot on the list, Mark "The Mighty" Gainey storms out of the gate to his 9th career weekly win (more on this below in LDL&S).  It was a big week for lots of people, though, as Gainey, going 8-0, edges out Trey Cartledge, also going 8-0. 

Yours Truly takes 3rd for the first week of the season, defending DFC Champ Lori Beirne gets 4th, Tom Johnson gets 5th, all at 8-0 (more on him later)

And finally, my favorite part of the results column, and the part that everyone scans just to look for their name... just for the rookies, all of the stats and numbers you will read are real, I didn't make any of them up. I've been keeping stats on The DFC since it began, everything from all game scores to win-loss records to the ups and downs of everyone's DFC career.  You may ask "Why keep all that?" and I ask "Why not?  I've got the spreadsheets, might as well give you the recap!"  And the longer you're in the DFC, the more you'll see your name because the more stats you'll end up having... some good and some bad.   Mark Twain (though that attribution has been recently disputed) said, "There are three kinds of lies in this world...

LIES, DARN LIES & STATISTICS

• First, congrats to Mark Gainey, winning his 9th career week, though his first since Week 11 of DFC IX in 2008.  He breaks a tie with Drew Morris, who has won 8 weeks.  The next on the list are Jennifer Ersnt (7), and the two time retired champ Wookiee Fulaytar and Yours Truly, both with 6.
• Those currently active in the DFC with only one weekly win?  Dan Sellers (DFC X, Wk 2)... Garrett Cheney (DFC V, Wk 8)... Justin Fisher (DFC X, Wk 5)... Rhett Barnett (DFC X, Wk 3)... Ryan Sherman (DFC IX, Wk 9)... Tyler Campbell (DFC VI, Wk 10)... and surprisingly...
• Eddy McBroom the Junior won his first week in Week 4 of DFC IV.  And now with this week, its been 81 weeks since the last time he won a week.  I checked the weekly win stats... that's a definite record.
• And then there are those who have never had a 7 day period to celebrate their temporary DFC champion status... not counting this year's rookies, there is Sarah Hasha and... well, Sarah.  She also holds the record for most weeks without a playoff berth--currently at 96.  We love you Sarah.
• Got to give Sarah credit though... she's the only one in the league right now with at least 7 weeks of 5-3 or better.  The record, of course, is currently held by Matt Latta (17 weeks), with the next longest active streak held by James Hawbaker, Jonathan Osborne, Trey Cartledge and Eddy McBroom, all tied at... three weeks
• The current 4-4+ active streak (consecutive weeks with 4-4 or better) is being held right now by Trey Cartledge, DM Osborne, James Hawbaker and Mark Gainey, all with 12 straight weeks (including this one).  The mark needed to get into the Top Ten of that list is 16 (Jennifer Ernst), and the record is 45, held by Tad Roose.    
• Tom Johnson made the Weekly Top Ten, and being the first week of the season, thusly made the DFC Power Poll at #5 this week.  The last time he made an appearance in the DFC Power Poll Top 12 was Week 9 of DFC V.  The closest he's come to that ranking was finishing 15th in both DFC VI (Wk7) and the end of last season.
• The Rookie of the Year Race has, in fact, begun, with Drew Warren and gRandy Latta coming out strong with 6-2 records.  John Wolf has a respectable 5-3, while Davy Tuck gets a 4-4 mark.
• Lots of 8-0 records this week--five, actually, which is a record for any one given week in the DFC.  This is a stark contract to the opening week of a year ago, when out of the 38 participants, 27 finished with 3-5 records or worse.  Yours Truly won the week with a paltry 5-3.  This week, out of 37 DFC'ers, 31 have winning records going into Week 2.

There were a few missteps when I sent out the divisions, including forgetting altogether the DFC IX Rookie of the Year Matt Halpert (into the North Division he goes)...

THE RULES
On Monday, August 30th, an email will go out containing matchups and some details of 8 upcoming college games that will take place the weekend of September 3rd through 6th. The first week will be all college, then next week will incorporate NFL games. One game will be designated as "The Tiebreak" game. Your response is to predict the winners, and pick the tiebreak game correctly.

Except for the first week, on Tuesdays, you'll receive an email with the previous week's results. A "weekly winner" will be announced--weekly record first, then goes to tiebreak--and overall standings, an an overall Top 12, the Power Poll, is also released. On Thursday, a quick "reminder" email will be sent, just informing people who's games have been received, who's games are still being waited on.

Games are expected to be into my email box by kickoff of the first game, though the exception is Thursday games. They will be few, but when there is a Thursday game, the pick for that game can be sent in, and the rest of the games can be sent in the next day.

TIEBREAK/TBA
With your overall standings, a "Tiebreak Average" will be kept throughout the season. When you send in your TB score, its the total score of the game selected... example is if Nebraska beats Colorado 41-9, for a total score of 50, and you had selected 40 points total (50 - 40 = 10), then you were 10 points off. For the next two games you were off 12 and 5, thats a total of 27, divide by 3 (games or weeks) and your TieBreak Average is 9.

This score is kept all season, and will be used to break the ties at the end of the season, including like-records for divisional records and for playoff positioning seeds (and spots). One need look no further than DFC III when Mikey Nipp's 10.18 TBA beat out Scott Latta's 10.75 TBA, for the conference's final playoff spot, robbing Scott of his first postseason spot (which he would not get until DFC VI)

TIEBREAK DROPS
A slight change has been made to the to Drop system, which previously allowed you to drop one score per season. This year the "drop" has been removed and instead, your best and worst Tiebreak guess of the season will be dropped, leaving 10 weeks worth to calculate. If you have a horrendous week in Week 3, and go with 60 points in a game that ends up 13-3, that will be dropped. However, if in Week 4, you go 70 in a game that ends up 7-0, that will become your worst week, and your atrocity in Week 3 will return. It will be up to you to keep track of your scores (or just trust me to take care of it, like most people do)

PLAYOFFS
The season will continue through 12 weeks, concluding the weekend of November 19-21st. The top six records in each conference will make the postseason, with division winners making it regardless, even if a division winner has a worse record than someone in another division for the 6th spot. The top two seeds, regardless of divisional status, get first round byes, the other four per conference will participate in "Wild Card Weekend". Divisional winners get higher seeds when in a record-tie with 2nd+ place in another division, regardless of TBA, but if 2nd place in a division has a higher record than a divisional winner, that higher seed is awarded to the 2nd place division finisher.

Top two records in Wild Card Weekend advance to next round. The top two seeds advance again to create a Final Four between the two conferences. Best record from each conference advance to DeuceBowl XI.

Lori captures her first DFC Crown in her first Final Four appearance, while Eddy McBroom, in his 2nd DeuceBowl (DFC V) and his 5th overall Final Four appearance (II, IV, V, IX & X).  Mark Gainey, after a stellar 15-1 run in the first 2 weeks, fell apart in the Final Four for his worst playoff week of his career.  Trey Cartledge, a possible preseason #1 pick for DFC XI, can't make it happen in this, his 2nd Final Four in three years.

Rookie of the Year... Gotta give it up for Brad Latta, finishing up 54-42.  Not only was he the only rookie to make the postseason, he posted a game better than Lt Dan (53-43) and Stevie Ray (53-43), and a few more games better than Hurricane Rhett Barnett (51-45).   Enjoy your trophy, Brad.

The Osborne Award... The Best Player to Not Make the Postseason has got to be Joey Thornell. Coming off of a DeuceBowl IX appearance (and a loss to Mark Gainey), he started slow but came on strong in the last few weeks.  He missed that 6th seed by less than a single TBA point--Brad Latta's 15.52 over Joey's 16.4.  Joey, its a small solace.

The MVP Award... You can say its a form of nepotism, or selfishness... but Yours Truly wins this award, given for the regular season, not counting postseasons chokes, for the second straight season.  Why?  One of two DFC'ers to win 60 or more games (both Yours Truly & Big Eddy made 61-35) and narrowly edges out Big Eddy for the award by virtue of Yours Truly spending 10 of 12 weeks at the top of the DFC Power Poll--Eddy got the other two.  So congrats to me.  There.

It was over Saturday for Trey Cartledge, as his 2nd Final Four appearace in three seasons ends just shy of the coveted spot in the DFC Title Week, DeuceBowl X.  That means that Big Eddy McBroom, 9 season vet of The Deuce Football Championships, is making his return to the DeuceBowl--his first appearance, in DFC V, was a thrilling battle against Wookiee Fulaytar--they both went 5-3, but Wookiee won virtue of the TieBreak.  His 41 points was closer to 38 than Big Eddy's 45 points--still the closest DeuceBowl in history.

On the other side, DFC Champ The Mighty Mark Gainey's bid for a 2nd straight championship ended with Baltimore's 23-20 loss to Pittsburgh.  That capped off a terrible Final Four week for Mark, putting him at 1-5 (with 2 games left) for the week--after a great 15-1 run in the first two weeks of the postseason.  Lori's average 3-3 record is now an insurmountable lead for her, placing her in her first championship, and making her the first chick to make the DeuceBowl since Jennifer Ernst's loss to Tad Roose in DeuceBowl IV in 2003.  Even with a 6-2 record, she lost to Tad's 8-0 week.

This sets up a classic DeuceBowl match between two long time DFC'ers.  There are 1081 victories between the two, with 17 years combined.

The Week That Was
Capping off a that was almost a disaster, Chris Croyle chalks up 7 wins in the final week of the season to get his first career win, and get his second straight 50+ win season.  Coming in second, and narrowly missing the playoffs is Tom Johnson, also getting a 7-1 record, while Zack Graves returns to the DFC after missing a few weeks nursing a groin injury (his own, we hope) to finish in a tie for 3rd with Jonny Osborne, both at 6-2.  Drew Morris is gaining momentum heading into the postseason, finishing 5th at 6-2.

LIES, DARN LIES & STATISTICS

• The Mighty Gainey has one more week to do something that no one has ever done--get a weekly win in four straight seasons.  He won Week 4 in both DFC VII and VIII and then Week 11 in IX.  Currently, he's part of a very small group that has done it three seasons in a row--Lori Then-Smith-Now-Beirne (DFC III-V)... Matt Latta (DFC VI-VIII)... Mikey Nipp (DFC I-III)... Tom Johnson (DFC IV-VI)... and actually, Gainey did it once before, in DFC III, DFC IV and V.
• There is also one more week for an undefeated week to happen.  Since DFC I, we've had at least one 8-0 week per season, and in the case of DFC VIII, we had 5 happen.  However, its been since Ryan Sherman did it in DFC IX, Week 9 since someone has chalked up 8 wins in a single week... that's 14 weeks.
• The current longest drought between undefeated weeks was 15 weeks. 
• It was a miserable week for Yours Truly--a 3-5 meltdown stopped the 5-3+ weekly record at 15 weeks, 2 shy of tying Matt Latta's 17 week record. 
• The next longest current streak now?  No joke.  Sarah Hasha at 5 weeks.
• Gina Roose continues her 4-4+ streak, now at 18 weeks.  She's 2 weeks away from hallowed ground... only 5 DFC'ers have ever gone 20 or more weeks with at least a 4-4 record.
• The defending DFC Champion, The Mighty Gainey, is set to clinch his 8th straight postseason appearance, not only the longest consecutive streak, but also the most playoff berths ever.  Drew Morris, former champion, would get his 7th appearance if he can get in this year, while Yours Truly and Big Eddy both had 4 season consecutive berth streaks, in 2nd place.

The Week That Was
I wasn't sure if he'd ever taken a week or not (talking to Matta Latta earlier tonight, I told him I couldn't remember).  Look in my big stat sheets and found out that DMOsborne has won twice previously... but not since Week 1 of DFC V, over five years ago.  As it is, a 7-1 record this weekend gives The DMO another win.

DMOsborne won via tiebreak, edging out Chris Croyle, with his best showing of the season, finishing 2nd.  Tied for third is former DFC champ Matt Latta, and three time former champ Tad Roose, both at 6-2, and in 5th is rookie Lt. Dan Sellers.  In 6th is Young Garrett Cheney at 6-2.

In 7th place is former DFC Champ Drew Morris at 5-3, in 8th is Gina "Wife of Tad 'The Dynasty' Roose" Roose, and tied for 9th is Yours Truly and Tom Johnson, both at 5-3.

The Gators finally had their "big game" coming out party last week, albeit against a defenseless Georgia team, and its time for Bama to do the same. Even being jumped by Texas in the AP Poll and the standings, as long as Bama can get to the SEC title game, they've got a shot at the whole shebang, but this is the biggest test of the year. LSU got good all of a sudden.

Florida State Seminoles (4-4) at Clemson Tigers (5-3), Time TBA
Hard to tell in this game. Depends on which FSU team shows up. FSU's defense stinks, Clemson's is mediocre at best. Where's the game, Clemson? Eh, FSU in a shootout. -- Sez 2 time DFC Champ & Hall of Famer Wookiee Fulaytar. Its also worth noting this game will help shape the outcome of the Atlan... er, the Coas... er, the Coaslantic Divi... uh... no one knows who is in what division in the ACC.

(17) Ohio State Buckeyes (7-2) at (12) Penn State Nittany Lions (8-1), 230p, ABC
The Big Ten has lost a lot of its luster in recent years, mainly due to the inability of Ohio State to win the big games. It's easy to forget that even with 2 losses, OSU still controls their own destiny and can return to the Rose Bowl if they find a way to win out. Penn State's defense has been very stingy this season at Happy Valley, giving up an average of only 7 points per game at home. The real question will be can Terelle Pryor step up and lead the "Buckeyes" in their latest "big game" or will the Nittany Lions stifle the potential phenom? -- Sez James Hawbaker, a member of the Big Ten/Iowa faithful

Personally, I think this will be the "toss up" of the weekend, and don't let that #24 in front of Call fool you. Only one game separates these two teams, and OSU is not that bad, while Cal is really not that good. Pick 'em!

I would have totally gone Cincy on this one, but the Ravens dismantled the Broncos on Sunday, and truly--they looked really good. And how much stock can you put into the Bengals? However, lest we forget Cincy is one freak Bronco foot bounce away from being 6-1.

And, I would have totally gone Jax this week... except they lost to the 0-344 Titans. Badly. Really badly. But the Chefs... well, they suck.

I see the Boys as down, the Eagles as climbing, and somehow, McNabb is not only healthy, but actually playing well. Go figure.

Sadly, all I can think of is, the shine is coming off the Broncos now. Especially after getting slaughtered by the Ravens.

Seriously, can Auburn be this bad? They started the season 5-0, and yeah, I could see a big loss to LSU, but they gave away that Kentucky game. The Rebels were completely overrated at #4, and might be overrated at #25. Pick 'em.

Georgia Bulldogs (4-3) vs 1. Florida Gators (7-0), 230p, CBS, in Jacksonville, Florida
Let's be realistic... at what point do the Gators run out of chances? An almost-loss to the Razorbacks, struggling against Mississippi State... this Georgia game scares me, really. If the Bulldogs don't beat themselves, they could pull the upset. Or... this might be the game the Gators win by 45, saying "Hey, we are the defending national champions. Reh-cah-nize." I hope for the latter.

5. USC Trojans (6-1) at 10. Oregon Ducks (6-1), 7p
I think Michael Nipp might have just peed himself, awaiting this game. This is going to be a fantastic game to watch... and its our tiebreak game.

3. Texas Longhorns (7-0) at 14. Oklahoma State (6-1), 730p
The 'Horns win blowout of Missouri, and for the first time this season, look like a championship contender. And now they face a former "flavor of the week" in OK State, who is much, much better than the Mizzou Tigers.

I was one of 7 people who picked the Bills to win their game last week against the Panthers, and got it right. Cause really, Buffalo stinks, but they are one of the least smelly teams of the ten or so that stink in the NFL right now.

NYGiants (5-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (3-2), 12p, Fox
The New York Football Giants, after starting undefeated, are on a 2 game skid. Then again, after starting 5-0, here's who they played... Washington. Kansas City. Tampa Bay. Oakland. And yeah, they beat Dallas, the only good team on those first five games. Philly played some of the same teams, yet lost to Oakland. (they play Washington tonight)

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) at Tennessee Titans (0-6), 405p, CBS
If they are going to win, why not now? At some point, shouldn't the Titans win? Shouldn't all the fans be wearing Manning jerseys, just to feel like a winner?

Minnesota Vikings (6-1) at Green Bay Packers (4-2), 315p, Fox
If you can remember back this far, Favre started his career with the Packers... and does anybody else but me remember several years ago when the Vikings started like, 7-0 or something, and everyone was talking Super Bowl and how good they were, and then they collapsed, finished like, 9-7, and missed the postseason? I see this happening here with Favre at the helm.

It had been 96 DFC weeks, dating back to 2001 to last week, between Tommy McLeod's 2nd and 3rd Weekly Win... he didn't wait nearly that long this time around, cause this time he only waited one week. Tommy takes his 2nd win in a row, becoming only the 7th player in DFC History to win 2 in a row.

• With 96 weeks between weekly wins, Tommy McLeod now has a record all his own--longest drought between weekly wins. The previous record was held by Daniel Powell, when he went 87 weeks between his weekly in 2001's DFC 2, Week 1 to last season, DFC 9, Week 3.
• Crossing 500! Regular season wins, congrats to Big Eddy Mac (509), Drew Morris (505) and Michael Nipp (502). Up next? Tad Roose (497), Scotty Latta (492), Eddy Jr (488) and Jonathan Osborne (488).
• Sarah Hasha is the latest to cross 400 (408), and it might be another season before Jason Duren gets to 400... he's at 350.
• All of the Top 20 are active, except for Justin Glenn, who sits at #20 with 317 wins. The next in line is #21, Tyler Campbell, who has 296 wins all time. Trey Cartledge just crossed the 200 win mark (209) and Turnbow is next (195).
• The Top Fifty has Scott Burks single season of 44 wins at #50. Brad Latta looks likely to make it into that Top Fifty, as he's at 38 wins now.
• When we rearrange the spreadsheet to rank it from Regular Season + Playoff wins, it changes a little bit. The only ones above 600 All Time Wins are Jennifer Ernst (614) and Yours Truly (611), but that will change in the coming weeks. Matt Latta (597) and Drew Morris (585) are up next. And Eddy Jr? Cincinnati's beatdown of Chicago gave him his 500th win.
• Chasing history, Gina Roose still has the longest active .500 streak at 15 weeks. Remember, its the hubby, Tad, who has the record--45 weeks of at least 4-4.
• We've mentioned that record numerous times, but here's the rest of the list... Gary "The Idol" Eubanks at 24 weeks, followed by Justin Glenn (21), Lori Beirne (20), then Daniel, Trey and Tommy McLeod, all at 19 weeks.
• Matt Latta holds the record for 5-3+, as he didn't have below a 5-3 mark between DFC VIII, Week 8 and Week 12 of last year.

DFC X Week Seven Results

Holy crap... the season is well past half finished! We've just finished our 56th game of the season, and for the original DFC'ers--Mikey, Latta, DMO, Tom, Yours Truly, Jennifer (Daniel & Tommy came in a week or two late)--our 912th game ever. And for me? I just crossed 25,000 games entered in over the course of 9 years. DFC Season X indeed.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
Eleven people took a 6-2 record from this weekend... but only 10 can make it in the Weekly Top Ten. Who was left out?

First, its been over 7 years since I've been able to say this, but... congrats to Tommy McLeod for winning his 4th week of his career, but the first since DFC II, Week 7. He actually tied Jason Quinn for the win, but two weeks earlier (Week 5), he won it outright. Been a long time since he's hoisted that weekly trophy, but its all yours Tommy.

The Self-Proclaimed "Sexy Beast of the DFC", Tyler Campbell keeps his dream-season going, finishing 2nd, and what better way to be 2nd than to tie with a good friend and roommate, Trey Cartledge, which he did. In 4th, Matt Halpert and Yours Truly tied, and in 6th, Big Eddy continues his DFC Resurgance.

Coming in 7th for the week was former DFC Champ Drew Morris, while in 8th, a tie between two of the three competing Latta Brothers, Scott and Matt, and rounding out the top ten, rookie Stevie Ray. All at 6-2.

• And now, America's favorite segment of stats, numbers and name drops, returns with an all new edition of the DFC history.
• Due to the fact that just about everyone's Week One was so horrendous, its not hard to imagine that any successful record streaks will be pretty low. The much heralded (mostly by me because it amazes me) .500 record, that being 4-4 or more, is held by The Mighty Gainey at over more than 40 weeks.
• The longest current streak? Yours Truly, at 18 weeks, follwed by Gina Roose, at 13 weeks in a row.
• Scott Latta had a great streak going himself--22 weeks--until this week's 2-6 splat.
• For years and years, the top spot in Overall Wins and College Wins has been held by Jennifer Ernst. Tom Johnson held the NFL record until last season when Jennifer overtook him. Now, Yours Truly is 4 games away from tying Jennifer in both Overal and College, and is currently tied in NFL.
• Jennifer does get praise, though as Nebraska's win over Missouri allowed her to be the first DFC'er ever to cross 600 wins all time. That's 600 games she's picked correctly, counting both regular season and playoffs. That's impressive.
• Reaching 500 wins (regular season) so far has been Tommy McLeod, DMOsborne, Daniel Powell and Tom Johnson. Up next is Big Eddy McBroom (496), Drew Morris (493) and Michael Nipp (492).
• Tim Wasyluka crossed the 400 win mark this season, while Sarah Hasha is only 2 away from doing it. Behind her is Jason Duren, way back at 346.
• In the 200 win column, Zack Graves writes his name. Going 1-7 this week, though, it was 2 weeks ago when he did it. He's currently at 201.
• Trey Cartledge is 2 away from 200, while Jason Turnbow is at 186 overall.
• When does a rivalry cease to become a rivalry because one surpasses the other completely? That's the question between Garrett Cheney and Tyler Campbell. Garrett, due mostly to his monster 64 win season in DFC V, has owned Tyler in all catagories... until this season. This season, Tyler is now a full 8 games ahead overall, including 7 of those in college.
