THE WEEK THAT WAS
It's been a long road full of rough starts for one Michael Nipp, who has been around since the very beginning, but hasn't seen the playoffs since 2004, but this season has given him something dangerous... hope.  Been a strong start for the Nippster, as he wins a rough, rough week for everyone, at 7-3.

PLAYOFF GLANCE
It's only Week 3, but here's a glance at how the postseason would roll out if everything stayed the same (which it won't, obviously).  To clarify, the Top Eight RECORDS advance to the Playoffs -- if there is a division winner who isn't in the top 8, they automatically enter at the 9th seed.  Then everyone ranked up until 25, as long as they reach the minimum wins (52) will go into the DFC25 Scramble

Would have automatic playoff berth:
Mikey Nipp*... Chris Croyle*... Garrison Ryfun... Aussie Nate... Matthew Pinkerton*... Hurricane Rhett*... Tommy McLeod*... Tad Roose... Eddy McBroom*
* - division winner

Would be in The DFC Scramble (the top 2 records after the first weekend of the playoffs would advance):
Zack Graves... Steven Ray... DMO... Tyler Campbell... Mitchell Pinky... Yours Truly... David Tuck... Roth from Wyoming... Coach DiB... Jenny Ernst... Mark Gainey... Jacob Pinky... James Hawbaker... Drew Morris... The Big Wasyluka... Lt Dan

Would Be Out:
Young Garrett... Bradley Pinky... Matt Mink... Danny Powell... Drew Warren... Big Tom J... Jonny Oz... Eddy Jr... Trey Cartledge

LIES, DARN LIES, & STATISTICS
Not a whole lot to report this week, but...

  • Congrats to Garrett Cheney for getting to 1000 victories all time... currently sitting at 1002 - which is also his regular season wins all time, because Garrett also holds the distinct honor of playing DFC the most weeks without a playoff appearance.
  • He was a rookie in DFCV, he's been in 219 weeks of competition... and never has had a single playoff appearance.  Its DFC Lore that in 2004 (DFCV), he needed to win only 2 of 10 games for the final playoff seed... if he only one 1 game, then the next one up, Chris "Wookiee" Fulaytar, had to go undefeated to make it.  Well, Garrett when 1-9.  And Wookiee went undefeated, the went 10-0 in the first round of the playoffs and eventually won the whole season.
  • Also, the +.500 streak I mentioned last week, meaning consecutive weeks going 6-4 or better, with DMOsborne and Tad "The Dynasty" Roose each at 6 weeks.  DMO went 5-5 this week, but Tad scored a 7-3, so seven weeks it is!

LIES, DARN LIES, AND STATISTICS
("There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics" - Mark Twain)

  • Welcome back to the 25th year! I've made quite a hullabaloo regarding the fact we've done this for a quarter of a century, but so far, after Week One, we've had 2,289 games to pick, and I've logged a total of 78,984 picks from everyone who has participated - and 83,640 if you count playoffs.  And the rumors of me having a massive spreadsheet with all the numbers are true. I actually have an Excel document for each season, and then an All Time document... however, I am missing DFCVIII's records. No idea how to get that back, and while I have the season totals (final standings and such) the week to week info is lost to history.
  • And while there are no rookies this year, we've had a total of 90 people, including 16 one-and-done DFC'ers.  The best of those was our buddy Vic Paschal, who in DFCII (2001), garnered a 59-45 all time record. So if you have won more than 57 games in your career, you'll know that you are at least 73rd or higher in the all time rankings... which is where Coach DiBello finds himself, with a full season, plus one week, record of 64-42 career.
  • The Coca-Cola Cowboy himself, Matt Mink, has a win total of 59, after 11 weeks, so is 4 wins away from taking 74th all his own
  • Farther up the list, looking at all time wins, Mark "The Mighty" Gainey is a mere 3 wins away from clocking 1500 lifetime wins, while Tommy at 1491 is 9 away.
  • Congrats to Tad "The Dynasty" Roose for crossing the 1400 win total (1406) and now Jonathan "Oz" Osborne also doing so (now at 1401)
  • Counting regular season, Trey "The Answer" Cartledge just hit 1000 wins (1008) and Zack "The Attack" Graves is literally at 1000 regular season wins as of this week.
  • Zack and Trey started three seasons AFTER Young Garrett Cheney... but props to Garrett who is 3 wins away from getting to 1000 as well.
  • Let's talk streaks!  I call it the "DiMaggio Streak", that being when Tad Roose went 45 weeks going .500 or higher - from Week 6 in DFC IV to Week 2 in DFC VIII, he went 4-4 or 5-5 or better. By contrast, 2nd on that list is Yours Truly, at 32 weeks (from 2013-2016). I'm not sure Tad's streak will ever be broken, honestly.
  • Current streaks?  Yours Truly at 21 weeks, Tommy McLeod at 18 weeks, which incidentally are tied for 6th and 11th all time respectively, and David Mark Osborne and Bradley Pinkerton, both at 11 weeks.
  • Even tougher, the +.500 streak (meaning not 4-4 or 5-5, but an actual winning record)... the record is held by Matt Latta at 17 weeks, from about 18 years ago, while the current active streak is both the aforementioned Tad and DMOsborne, both at 6 weeks currently. Good luck on that.
