THE WEEK THAT WAS

Father/son competitors are always fun, as The McBroom duo has been a legendary tag team throughout DFC History - both have had up and down years throughout their careers, but two things about Eddy McBroom's 9th career weekly win this week - first, he won the week at a definitive 7-1, much needed as the postseason looms large. Second, its the first time in 24 years that both Eddy Sr and Eddy Jr won a week in the same season - Eddy Jr won in Week 4, and now Eddy Sr here. Good job folks

For the rest of the Top 10... Defending DFC Champ DMOsborne finishes 2nd at 6-2, with Tyler "The Self Proclaimed Sexy Beast of the DFC" Campbell in 3rd (6-2), Matt "The Coca-Cola Cowboy" Mink in 4th (6-2) and Young Garrett Cheney in 5th (6-2)

The rest of the Top 10 is at 5-3, with Roth from Wyoming in 6th... Matty "Pinky the Elder" Pinky in 7th... Garrison "The Pride of Tipton" Ryfun in 8th... and tied for 9th, Mitchy "Pinky the Youngest" Pinky and Drew // Morris.

LIES DARN LIES & STATISTICS
Welcome back to the random numbers of 25+ years of the DFC - all numbers are real, all stats are authentic
  • First, congrats to Tad "The Dynasty" Roose, who finally crossed 1400 wins lifetime (now 1408)
  • Also, in the Regular Season All Time Top Ten (total wins not including playoffs) Jonathan Osborne is 6th (1412), Mark Gainey is 7th (1410) and DMOsborne is 8th (1408) put that section of the Top 10 in a flurry.
  • Also important to note that it took DMO 25+ seasons to get there, Jonathan 24 seasons, and Mark 23 seasons - of course Mark Gainey has 2 titles and DMO has 1. So suck it Johnny Oz.
  • The Big Wasyluka crossed 1300 (1301 now), while Steven Ray is 18 away from 1000 wins. Chris Croyle crossed 900 wins (904), Aussie Nate got to 200 (201)
  • And if rookie Jeremy Burgess can get to 57 wins this year, he'll be in the Top 75 all time
  • Lets look at one of my fave stats... the .501 / .500 streaks - basically how many weeks in a row has someone finished over 500 (5-3 or 6-4 or better) and same for finishing at least .500 (4-4 or 5-5 or better)...
  • Currently the +.500 streak record is held by Matt "The Great Bear of the North" Latta, DFC VI champion, a streak created at least 15 years ago.  To tell you how hard it is to do, the only streak started before this season is Drew Morris, who is currently at 8 straight weeks. Matty Pinky and Trey Cartledge both have 5 straight weeks. Good luck
  • For .500+, the record is still held by Tad Roose, at 45 weeks, which legit had Tad going 3+ full seasons without a losing record - Yours Truly is now at 36 weeks, which has climbed to 2nd all time (it always feels funny putting my records up, but trust me, if I were going to cheat, I would have won a title years ago - I'm the Buffalo Bills of the DFC)
  • Mark Gainey is at 14 weeks, Drew Morris, Eddy McB and Steven Ray are all at 12 weeks
  • Finally - I struggle with the idea of counting DFC XXV's Scramble as playoff spots. It was Jacob Pinky and Coach DiBello that came out of the scramble, so they definitely have "postseason" on their record, but the other 15 in the scramble?  I looked it up and the NBA does not count teams in the play-in tournament as playoff appearances, unless you win your game and actually get to the big bracket - so final decision... no, those in the DFC Scramble last year were not considered "in the playoffs"
  • All that to say - Garrett Cheney holds the record now for 23 years in the league and nary a playoff spot. If he doesn't make it this year, that puts him at 2086 games with no postseason (he's never made it - the Week 12 Collapse of DFC V is still DFC Lore)
  • Mikey Nipp held the record with 1812 games (18 seasons) between playoff appearances, making it in DFC V and then not again until DFC XXV
  • Tom Johnson is now in the lead in this category, as if he doesnt make it this year, he'll have gone 1624 games between postseason spots - his last appearance was DFC XI in 2008
  • Finally - Whats in a (Nick) Name?  Who are these people and why do they have Nicknames?  The Pinky Brothers - Matthew, Bradley, Jacob, and Mitchell Pinkerton - Matthew being the eldest (hence, "Pinky the Elder"), Bradley wrote a book ("Pinky the Wiser"), Jacob has been called Pinky for years ("Pinky the Pinky") and Mitchell is the baby boy ("Pinky the Younger")...
  • Jacob Roth lives in Wyoming... and has been known as Roth from Wyoming as long as I've known him.   Nathan Johnston lives in Iowa, but heralds from Australia, so, again, I've known him as Aussie Nate since I met him.
  • One random day in DFC XII or something, Tyler Campbell, then a fresh faced student, declared himself the "Sexy Beast of the DFC".  He does have a title, so there may be some bearing there. But yeah, that's what I label him now, or "SBotDFC" if I'm feeling brief.
  • Finally, three time champ Zack Graves - why "The Attack"?  It comes from an old Lego commercial, one that sings "Zack, Zack, he's a Lego maniac!"  Maniac didnt work, but "attack" did, and it stuck, at least on my end. Hence Zack "The Attack".

THE WEEK THAT WAS
So instead of studying and thinking about it, this time I just made my picks and left the country for the weekend (Cancun), wasn't even sure who won what games until Saturday night (I had to refresh my phone over and over for 30 minutes to follow the AL/GA game) and turns out, 9-1, winning the week.

If I make the playoffs, I'll go ahead and plan a trip to Punta Cana for DeuceBowl XXVI.

Garrison "The Pride of Jacksonville" Ryfun takes 2nd, while Defending DFC Champ DMO is in 3rd, and Steven "The Principle" Ray takes 4th, all at 8-2.

THE STANDINGS
Note: The TBA has been adjusted, as in your worst TB guess has been dropped. So instead of 5 numbers after 5 weeks, there are only 4.  If your worst remains your worst, then it will remain dropped. If you do a worst number later, that will be dropped and the other will be added back in.  The only time your worst TB will be brought back is if there is a tie at the end of the season, when the TieBreak will be part of the tie break. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
